Qualcomm flagship chip 835 Asia launches support for 32 megapixel camera

It is understood that the snapdragon 835 has been put into production, and the commercial terminal carrying the snapdragon 835 is expected to be shipped in the first half of 2017.

Key components of the 835 processor include: an integrated X16 LTE modem that supports gigabit LTE connectivity; Integrated 2x2 802.11ac Wave 2 wi-fi and Bluetooth 5; Supports multiple gigabit connections. Processing power and performance are improved through the new Qualcomm Kryo 280 CPU and Qualcomm Hexagon 682 DSP, in which Qualcomm Hexagon 682 DSP supports TensorFlow for machine learning and Halide for image processing. The snapdragon 835 also significantly enhanced the Qualcomm Adreno visual processing subsystem, including the new Adreno 540 GPU and Qualcomm Spectra 180 ISP for the next generation photo-taking feature. It also includes the Qualcomm Haven security platform to improve the security of biometrics and terminal authentication.

For phones, the 835 has a smaller, bare chip and package size, which can expand the space of the phone's main board. Based on this phone, it can be designed to be thinner, have a larger battery capacity, and reduce power consumption significantly with multiple integrated features. It is understood that 835 is 25% less power consumption than the previous generation.

Last year, dual-camera cameras were set off by phone manufacturers, who launched dual-camera phones with 16 megapixels. This 835 photography improved the static photo and video shooting experience. Qualcomm Spectra 180 camera ISP is at the core of the shooting experience, with dual 14-bit isps that can support up to 32 megapixel single cameras or dual 16-megapixel cameras.

Notably, the 835 has improved its performance requirements, cooling limits and energy efficiency in VR and augmented reality (VR/AR), which supports the Google Daydream platform to achieve high-quality mobile VR.

This includes up to 25% improvement in 3D rendering performance and up to 60 times improvement in color supported by Adreno 540 visual processing subsystem. The snapdragon 835 also supports 4K Ultra HD premium (HDR10) video, 10-bit wide color field display, object-based and scenario-based 3D audio, and 6DoF VR/AR motion tracking based on qualcomm's self-developed sensor fusion technology.

Qualcomm is the dominant player in mobile chips, but it has also become the subject of lawsuits from countries around the world over monopolistic practices. In China, qualcomm was fined nearly $1 billion two years ago. Unlike in the past, more and more mobile phone manufacturers such as samsung, huawei and xiaomi have joined the battle for chips. With qualcomm's existing rivals, Intel, mediatek and spreadtrum, their positions are no longer rock solid.
